“Ensuring that Afghanistan doesn’t become a terrorist haven” is a poorly-defined, open-ended aim. It is not a clear objective, the accomplishment (or non-accomplishment) of which can be unequivocally verified. And this sort of half-baked inanity from our leaders has been the reason why Afghanistan has dragged on and on interminably for 20 years.

People have given successive administrations chance after chance after chance after chance. And all we’ve heard from any of them has been “just a little longer”, “one more year”, “six more months”, “one more surge”, “not quite there”, “not yet”, “one more push”. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah… For. Twenty. Years.

Enough is enough is enough is ENOUGH.

We have no coherent plan or policy. We have no clear objectives. We have nothing - except empty platitudes and PR gesticulating. And we’re SICK of it.

Our leaders have had **twenty years** to make a plan and execute it. And they have NOT done so.

It is past time to pull the plug on this misbegotten boondoggle.
